Job Title: Finance Director

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Starting Salary Range: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00

Type of Position: Full-Time, Exempt

Position Summary:

The Finance Director is responsible for leading the finance department, managing the accounting staff, and monitoring all accounting functions. The position oversees financial planning, strategy, and operations within the organization. The role includes maintenance of best-in-class accounting policies and procedures, managing financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and tax functions, and establishing key performance metrics, along with asset management and internal controls. The Finance Director collaborates closely with program leadership, executives, and other stakeholders to ensure the continued financial health of the organization and compliance with regulations and best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities (not all inclusive)
  • Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of financial strategies and policies.
  • Manage financial planning and budgeting processes, ensuring accurate forecasting and resource allocation.
  • Coordinate with executive leadership regarding long term financial strategies and objectives, projections, key financial performance metrics, etc.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements/reports for executives, the board, and appropriate committees.
  • Oversee financial reporting, including monthly billing, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, tax filing/reporting, audit functions , etc.
  • Maintain accurate records of company assets and provide financial oversight of asset related projects and purchases.
  • Collaborate with organization and program leadership related to financial controls, processes, program needs/strategies, and guidelines.
  • Maintain procedures, processes, and best practices that result in security, accuracy, efficiency, and a high level of professionalism.
  • Maintain internal controls to safeguard the financial health of the organization, including timely account reconciliations.
  • Manage access to accounts, systems, and financial related data and reports.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and motivation to ensure high performance.
  • Manage accounting software and reporting functions.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, industry standards, accounting procedures/GAAP, federal and state regulations, accrediting agency requirements, etc.
  • Actively participate in compliance reviews, audits, and related financial activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of developments, trends, and best practices in finance.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, regulatory changes, agency compliance requirements, etc.

Requirements:
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • At least three years of experience in the financial function of a company, specifically related to financial statements, general ledger, best in class procedures, etc. required
  • At least three years of experience in a supervisory role preferred
  • Experience working with nonprofits, state entities, and accrediting agencies (DMD, DHSS, CARF, CACFP, MoDOT, etc.) preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Thorough understanding of financial best practices, procedures and methodologies, GAAP, state and federal regulations, etc.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial statements, technical procedures, and government regulations
  • Willingness to maintain confidentiality of private, sensitive, or protected information
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, accounting software, and standard office and accounting equipment
  • Commitment to the organization's mission and working with a diverse population

Physical Demands:
  • Stand and/or sit for prolonged periods.
  • Prolonged periods of talking, typing, and looking at computer screens.

Other:
