Job Title: Lead Analyst - Financial Risk & Controls

Management Level: P3

Financial Control Oversight is the department within Corporate Finance responsible for regulatory reporting compliance and testing such controls. The lead analyst participates in the planning of the annual reviews and scoping over Regulatory Reporting.

They will identify regulatory processes and associated risks, develop testing plans, and assess the adequacy of design and operation effectiveness of controls through testing of complex controls. As an experienced control tester, the Lead Analyst will also review certain control plans from other team members to evaluate the appropriateness of planned testing approaches and results of test work. The Senior Analyst will also conduct assessments of identified deficiencies, working with deficiency owners to document any actual or potential impact, determine root cause, develop action plans necessary to remediate findings, and research other relevant facts. This role will also be a key member of the US-based team and will provide operational support to the global FCO team, ensuring seamless continuity between offshore resources at First Citizens India and First Citizens Bank. The staff member may also support the creation of operational guidance within Financial Control Oversight. Collaborates and builds strong relationships with the Bank's control executors, and other key stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities

Lead Regulatory Reporting Controls Analyst will have the following responsibilities:
  • Control Evaluation - Performs fieldwork to evaluate the design and operating effectiveness for assigned controls. Complete thorough documentation in accordance with departmental standards. Evaluated the adequacy of deficiency remediation activities. Reviews other team member’s testing plans and test work, as appropriate. Perform transaction testing for data validation and Data quality checks to confirm validity and consistency of data attribute. Identifying high and moderate severity issues and logging them on issue management log and work towards the resolution.
  • Remediation Assessment - Assist Regulatory Reporting Team over issues identified as part of Fed exam or Internal Audit assessments.
  • Relationship Development - Builds and maintains influential relationships with multiple levels of management, internal auditors, regulators, and other internal controls assurance functions. Partner with wider Regulatory Reporting Team to establish guidance on Internal controls and repository buildup over Key Data Elements (KDEs) of different regulatory reports.
  • Assist in establishing process and procedure documents to be utilized by Regulatory Reporting team, including process narratives for key regulatory filings (e.g. FR Y-9C, FFIEC 031 and FRY-14Q etc.)
  • Review of regulatory filings for non-conformance with regulatory instructions
  • Risk Mitigation - Investigates and manages key interdependencies that impact Regulatory Reporting risk. Advises manager on the appropriate resolution of identified deficiencies and provides insights that allows for revision to the annual plan.
  • Project Management - Manages assigned work to ensure results meet identified timelines for the assigned portion of the annual plan. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required.

  • Ability to demonstrate courage and objectivity when communicating with executive and senior leadership when presenting complex issues, recommendations, and opinions


Experience Required

Minimum 8 years performing audit work, which conforms to professional standards. Progressive experience in a combination of public accounting (Big 4 or large regional accounting firm) and/or internal audit experience with a background in financial services

Strong / broad understanding of Regulatory (RAAP) instructions including FRY-14, FR Y-15, FRY-9C etc.

Preferred Education and Certification

Masters, CPA, CIA, and/or CA preferred
