The Accounting Director plays a vital role in guiding financial systems, driving company initiatives, and increasing cost effectiveness for all Gold's Gym Tennessee locations. The Accounting Director will focus on keeping our finances positioned for success, while having an ongoing, day-to-day impact on the company operations, helping to strategize and grow our fiscal health.
This seasoned strategist not only will understand current accounting practices and trends but also will have experience creating and allocating budgets and adapting to change, whether it's through growth or downsizing. Major Responsibilities
- Take responsibility (either directly or via staff) for all cash management, investments, insurance, budgeting, and financial reporting, and help drive the company's financial strategy
- Coordinate development of annual operating, capital, and program budgets, as well as reporting for the same
- Provide comprehensive financial updates on business performance to ownership and senior managers by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls, guiding financial decisions by applying company policies and procedures to current economic landscape
- Maintain internal safeguards for revenue receipts, costs, and team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures
- Maximize payroll, benefit, and recruitment efficiency through innovative process development with the HR Director
- Help develop and support short- and long-term operational strategies
- Ensure cash flow is compatible with operations by overseeing day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal-control activities of the organization
- Establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on a biweekly, monthly, and annual basis
- Comply with federal, state, and local financial requirements by studying existing and new legislation and taking appropriate action
- File quarterly and annual taxes as required by federal, state, and local laws
- Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyze internal operations, and identify areas for cost reduction and process enhancement
- Perform risk management through analysis of company liabilities and investments, and evaluate and manage capital structure
- Hire, train, and manage personnel in the billing and accounting departments, including collections, and oversee financial IT systems, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory entities (ex: Financial Accounting Standards Board, Internal Revenue Service, state attorneys general)
- Attend regularly scheduled conference calls, meetings, and events as requested by ownership
- At least five (5) years, ten (10) preferred, of experience in accounting management (Controller, Director, Accountant, etc.) required; experience in the fitness industry is a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master's Degree preferred Professional certification (ex. Certified Public Accountant)
- Multi-unit location experience required
- Strong understanding of banking processes, reconciliation, and financial data analysis
- Working knowledge of national and local tax regulations and compliance reporting
- Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity
- Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills
- Understanding of advanced accounting, regulatory issues, and tax planning
- Must have excellent project coordination, organization, interpersonal and time management skills
- Strong computer skills and attention to detail required
