In this role, you will be a key member of the accounting team, responsible for a variety of accounting functions including month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP), experience in the transportation industry, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Standard Forwarding Freight is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Staff Accountant to join our growing LTL organization. In this role, you will be a key member of the accounting team, responsible for a variety of accounting functions including month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP), experience in the transportation industry, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage complex account reconciliations, with a focus on transportation-specific accounts.
- Perform detailed account analysis and investigate financial variances.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations.
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Review and process invoices.
- Develop and maintain accounting documentation and standard operating procedures.
- Assist in annual audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors.
- Generate management reporting and financial dashboards.
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Support internal control documentation and process improvements.
- Prepare internal financial reports for management.
- Assist with external reporting requirements.
- Analyze financial data and provide insights to management.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with 3 years in the transportation/logistics industry.
- CPA certification strongly preferred.
- Experience with accounting software systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle).
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong understanding of transportation-specific accounting principles.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work effectively in a lean, dynamic accounting environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with LTL (Less Than Truckload) accounting.
- CPA or CMA certification.
- Experience with transportation management software (TMS).
- Familiarity with freight billing and revenue recognition.
- Understanding of transportation industry cost accounting.
- Experience with LTL (Less Than Truckload) accounting.
