Job Summary

Standard Forwarding Freight is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Staff Accountant to join our growing LTL organization. In this role, you will be a key member of the accounting team, responsible for a variety of accounting functions including month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP), experience in the transportation industry, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage complex account reconciliations, with a focus on transportation-specific accounts.
  • Perform detailed account analysis and investigate financial variances.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare and post journal entries.
  • Review and process invoices.
  • Develop and maintain accounting documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist in annual audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Generate management reporting and financial dashboards.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Support internal control documentation and process improvements.
  • Prepare internal financial reports for management.
  • Assist with external reporting requirements.
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to management.
    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
    • 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with 3 years in the transportation/logistics industry.
    • CPA certification strongly preferred.
    • Experience with accounting software systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle).
    • Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
    • Strong understanding of transportation-specific accounting principles.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
    • Ability to work effectively in a lean, dynamic accounting environment.
      Preferred Qualifications
      • Experience with LTL (Less Than Truckload) accounting.
      • CPA or CMA certification.
      • Experience with transportation management software (TMS).
      • Familiarity with freight billing and revenue recognition.
      • Understanding of transportation industry cost accounting.
