How will you make an impact in this role?
This position serves as a key member of the American Express External Reporting, Controllership team. The successful candidate will serve as Assistance Manager of External Reporting and have primary responsibilities over a variety of regulatory reporting functions for American Express National Bank, American Express and the Prepaid business. This is a team that is committed to excellence, talent development and encourages work-life balance. The open position covers a variety of responsibilities, but the ideal candidate will enjoy all aspects of the financial reporting process. Overall, the position is responsible for managing the following:
- Understand regulatory reporting requirements and apply/implement the same to the reports.
- Preparing the regulatory filing and supporting documentation/schedules.
- Coordinating with various Subject Matter Experts and Global Reporting leaders.
- Responsible for leading critical business initiatives and other initiatives identified by leadership to transform current processes.
- Ability to manage competing priorities with eye for details
- Drive change through enhancement of the existing control environment.
- Collaborate with the team to prepare the reporting environment for automation.
- Manage the implementation of new and evolving regulatory requirements arising from either new regulation or new products including the development of comprehensive project timelines, education for management, training for the Regulatory team, and coordinating with data suppliers on new reporting expectations and deliverables.
- Work with the Oracle and other technology teams to create dynamic, accurate, and automated regulatory legal entity reporting.
- Liaise with similar positions within the Global External Regulatory Reporting team to identify and implement opportunities for integration and process enhancement.
Minimum Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
- 3 years of significant financial reporting and accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of Regulatory, US GAAP, and SEC reporting and accounting practices is preferrable
- Executive-level presentation skills.
- Demonstrated strength in leading change, analyzing and resolving issues, driving results and managing performance.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated individual with strong organizational and relationship building skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Chartered Accountant/CPA preferred
- Prior experience with U.S. regulatory/SEC reporting or public accounting a plus.
