Client Details

My client is seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Construction Controller to manage and oversee the financial operations of their construction projects. As a key member of the finance team at a general contracting firm, you will be responsible for budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for ongoing construction projects, ensuring accurate cost tracking, financial compliance, and profitability. The Construction Controller will collaborate closely with project managers, estimators, and other stakeholders to provide financial insights, support decision-making, and contribute to the overall financial success of the organization.

Description

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze detailed financial reports for ongoing construction projects, including job cost reports, budget forecasts, and profit and loss statements.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop project budgets, track expenses, and update forecasts throughout the lifecycle of the project, identifying potential cost overruns and taking corrective action as needed.
  • Cost Control: Monitor and control costs related to labor, materials, and subcontractors to ensure that project budgets are adhered to. Implement cost-saving measures where possible without compromising quality or timelines.
  • Cash Flow Management: Ensure effective cash flow management by coordinating with project managers to track and report on accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payment schedules for construction projects.
  • Contractor and Subcontractor Coordination: Review and manage subcontractor contracts, including financial aspects, payment schedules, and adherence to terms.
  • Compliance and Audit: Ensure that all financial records related to construction projects are compliant with accounting standards and regulations. Support internal and external audits by providing required financial documentation and reports.
  • Financial Systems Management: Utilize construction accounting software and other financial systems to maintain accurate records and streamline financial processes for construction projects.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with project managers, estimators, and senior leadership to assess project performance, address financial concerns, and provide strategic recommendations for improving profitability.


Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction accounting, financial management, or a related field, with a proven track record in managing the financial aspects of construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction industry accounting principles, job costing, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with construction-specific financial software (e.g., Procore, Sage 300, Buildertrend, or similar).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations, contract management, and compliance standards.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation.
  • Experience in both residential and commercial construction projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel or other financial modeling tools.
