The Homeland and Force Protection Business Area of the Leidos National Security Sector is seeking a Business Development Director to lead business development activities focused on the Force Protection and Security market within the Department of Defense (DoD).

The role requires an ethical approach to identifying and pursuing new opportunities, comprehensive business acumen, technical understanding, resourcefulness, and outstanding business relationships. This position will report to the Growth Vice President for Homeland and Force Protection Business Area

Primary Responsibilities

BD Director will develop and execute the marketing and BD strategy for the DOD Force Protection and Security account.

The position will pursue new opportunities in the areas of mission support, security, engineering and integration of force protection systems with an emphasis on cyber security, cloud, artificial intelligence and multi-domain environments. Experience in mission software, networks, information technology and/or digital transformation is required. Familiarity with system architectures, autonomous and unmanned force protection and national security solutions is required.

The position will be the creative and trusted agent of the Division Management and Functional Management to drive a culture of innovation and capture excellence. Responsible for the customer call plans. The candidate must thrive in an environment where they are responsible for the management and execution of the full BD life-cycle process across multiple simultaneous pursuits and proposals. In addition to building a qualified pipeline of opportunities, the BD Director will help shape customer requirements, translate tacit customer needs into actionable features, drive differentiation in Leidos' solutions and help create a compelling value proposition. The ideal candidate will have previously served as a business development manager and/or capture manager with proven experience supporting DoD customers.

Successful candidates will have the ability to conceptualize a vision for winning, to develop strategy and BD capture plans that implement the vision, and, to translate the strategy into win themes. Able to efficiently manage investments in marketing and Bid and Proposal (B&P). The candidate is expected to be a critical partner with the technology team and solution architects and coalesce the division's strategy along with the technology strategy.

Basic Qualifications
  • This position requires a BA/BS or equivalent experience and 15+ years prior relevant experience or a Masters degree with 13+ years of experience.
  • Technical degree is a MUST
  • Excellent communications skills - demonstrated through written and oral presentations, development of technical papers, volumes, or similar products
  • Possess business and technical vision
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Energetic and strong leader
  • Possess analytical presentation and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with online tools used by the Government for solicitations
  • Experience in identifying and qualifying large business development programs (>$150M Total Contract Value) with emphasis on opportunity qualification and shaping
  • Proven record of success developing opportunities within the DoD Intelligence Community (winning single award >$150M pursuits)
  • Demonstrated skills in all areas of business development including: opportunity qualification, capture strategy, customer visits and demonstrations, customer relationship development, relationship development with competitors, written submissions (market surveys, RFI responses, support to proposals), team leadership, etc.
  • Experience in the development of and successful negotiation of teaming agreements
  • Subject matter expertise in Force Protection, Security, NC3 modernization, Biometrics, and/or Software Development and Integration in support of some or most of the listed customers: DEVCOM (AvMc, CBC), CMA, CTIC, PEO IEW&S (PM Terrestrial, PM Biometrics), PEO Soldier, PEO ACWA, PEO MS (IFRCO, IFMC), Joint PEO Armaments and Ammunition, JPEO CBRND, COCOMs (SOFCOM, SOCOM, INDOPACOM), DTRA, DTIC, DISA, CNIC, NIWC, NAVFAC, SSP, PEO IWS, PEO U&W, NCIS, MCICOM, AFLCMC (ESC, HBU), US AFCENT, AFRL, and AFWERX
  • Experience presenting to senior executives, peers, and customers
  • Ability to empower and engage people and instill drive and passion into the organization


Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years leading people, teams, and programs.
  • The ideal candidate has led pursuits in the DoD market for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Secret with Top Secret/SCI eligibility
  • 12+ years' experience working in or with DoD
  • Prior business development experience in any federal market segment
  • Ability to gain internal support, operate independently with limited supervision and feedback, and establish solid working relationships with technical staff, division managers, and peers across the corporation

Pay Range: Pay Range $144,300.00 - $260,850.00
