Accentuate Staffing is currently recruiting for an Assistant Controller for a growing Biotech company located in Durham, NC 27709. This is a Direct Hire opportunity offering an excellent work culture, opportunity for growth and strong benefits.
The Assistant Controller will assist with all accounting operation functions at the company. The successful candidate will have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and make use of excellent communication, technology, and analytical skills. Solid experience in accounting, budget management, and the consolidation of financial data to enable tactical and strategic decision making by executive management. An experience base in start-up biotech with a variety of income sources (venture backing, federal and local grants, commercial revenue) will be greatly beneficial.

Responsibilities:
- Directing, coordinating, planning and executing on all accounting functions
- Preparing internal and external financial statements used for board meetings, fundraising, strategic initiatives, etc.
- Lead and direct monthly financial closeout and manage associated documentation
- Assist with grants budget creation, monthly closing files, maintenance, and fund distribution
- Serve as point of contact in coordinating any activity with external auditors
- Provide support with yearly budget process
- Compile and present financial data, reports, and forecasts vital to internal decision-making processes
- Assess and evaluate existing accounting software and processes, advising improvements where needed
- Champion any regulatory reporting needed, including tax planning and compliance
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Business Administration
- CPA or Masters Degree is preferable but not required
- Keen familiarity with the start-up environment and ability to align accounting strategy and practices to company's near- and long-term objectives
- Experience with federal and state grant accounting requirements is desirable
- Highly Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite products, as well as standard accounting software packages (Quickbooks, tax software, etc.)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (presentation & writing) skills
- Adept in ad hoc networking, forming trustful work relationships across multiple departments
- Demonstrated ability to oversee accounting assistants/clerks
