The Assistant Controller's role is to help the operating divisions in planning, controlling and continuously evaluating the direction and performance of the businesses. While a primary objective is to analyze and interpret financial reports, the Assistant Controller is also responsible for monitoring operational aspects of the division business and ensure that they are operating in line with Company policies and objectives.

Our client is a manufacturing company based in Willow Grove, PA.

Description

Financial Statements:

Ensure monthly financial statements are prepared timely in accordance with GAAP.

Compare actual results with forecasts and budgets. Provide meaningful analysis of variance to actual results.

Identify and communicate corrective action plans to address variances.

Prepare monthly and quarterly business review reports for executive management team and board of directors.

Standard Costs:

Lead annual standard cost update process by establishing and ensuring accurate standards are set in partnership with V.P. of Operations.

Review actual job costs compared to project budget for all jobs in-process. Identify and initiate investigation into variances and regularly review with BU Controller and the division leadership team to develop corrective actions.

Review with the Controller and General Manager the standard costs, including changes as a result of subcontractor and material cost increases. Identify the impact on profitability and any necessary pricing actions.

Month End Close:

Oversee divisional month-end close process including account reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and timely adjustments.

Pricing:

Review marginal income trends at sale, at project start and project completion to ensure profitability targets are being attained.

Budgeting & Forecasting:

Lead in the completion of annual revenue, expense, and capital budgets, quarterly forecast updates.

Receivables:

Work with Corporate Controller to manage the receivables collection process. Document all "Terms of Payment" used by a division and ensure money list reporting is consistent with the agreed payment terms. Develop individual action plans for collecting delinquent accounts, voiding warranties, and writing off balances as uncollectible in accordance with company policy. Ensure all such actions are appropriately documented. Produce meaningful tracking reports to allow management to monitor receivable levels.

Warehouse/Inventory:

Ensure the Division's Warehouse function is processing inventory receipts and relief on a timely basis to ensure perpetual inventory is accurate at all times.

Coordinate and oversee cycle counts and periodic physical inventories.

Monitor and ensure proper security measures to protect inventory from theft.

Business Partnering:

Develop a partnership with division management teams to deliver key business outcomes and mitigate risk while retaining their professional independence.

Internal Controls & Audit:

Ensure all selling discounts are approved.

Establish controls to ensure compliance with company collection policy and contractual payment terms, and issues are identified in a timely manner and addressed appropriately.

Ensure that all exceptions to standard customer payment terms are appropriately approved and documented.

Ensure compliance with inventory procedures (including appropriate form usage) for receiving, storing, relieving, and costing of inventory.

Ensure all areas of the business involving significant financial risk have proper accounting and management controls.

Support internal and external audits.

Other:

Assist in other duties and projects as assigned.

Profile

Accounting background with 5-8 years in corporate accounting, bachelor's degree required, CPA and/or MBA preferred or working towards

Strong Excel skills are a must (Vlookups, Pivot Tables) and accounting systems background (Solomon a plus)

High energy, inquisitive businessperson, lifelong learner with ability to maintain composure and execute in a high-pressure environment

Must take a "hands-on" approach to work and be willing to "roll-up sleeves" in pursuit of managing the day-to-day requirements

Understanding of financial compliance requirements

Collaborative/consultative team player, strong communication and presentation skills with both internal and external clients are required

Problem-solving experience including identification, solution development and execution.
