The Controller will work closely with the CFO and other senior management to ensure the company's financial health, compliance with regulatory requirements, and achievement of financial objectives.
Key Responsibilities of the Controller:
Financial Reporting:- Prepare and oversee the production of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and other relevant financial regulations.
- Provide detailed financial analysis and reporting to support business decision-making.
Accounting Operations:- Manage the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Maintain and enforce a system of internal controls to safeguard the companys assets.
Budgeting & Forecasting:- Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department heads.
- Prepare financial forecasts and provide variance analysis to monitor financial performance.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
Compliance & Audit:- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal tax filings and other financial regulations.
- Coordinate and manage external audits, ensuring that all audit issues are resolved, and audit recommendations are implemented.
Team Leadership:- Supervise and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide training opportunities to enhance team capabilities.
Strategic Planning:- Support the CFO and senior management in strategic planning initiatives by providing financial insights and analysis.
- Assist in evaluating and executing mergers, acquisitions, and other business opportunities.
Systems & Process Improvement:- Evaluate, recommend, and implement financial software systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Continuously improve accounting processes and procedures to streamline operations and reduce risks.
Qualifications of the Controller:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial role.
- Oil & gas experience required.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- High level of integrity and attention to detail.
