Position Summary:

The Controller leads our finance team, ensuring meticulous oversight of all financial operations. The Controller oversees routine accounting activities, manages financial records, develops budgets, and strategically allocates financial resources. This critical role requires a proactive approach, exceptional leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to provide sharp financial insights. These insights will enable the Service Operations team to pursue ongoing improvement efforts. Ultimately, the Controller is instrumental in our ability to maintain our steadfast dedication to excellence, supporting both our workforce and our customers. Given the size and nature of our company, a successful candidate must be comfortable with ambiguity, hands-on tasks, and strategic responsibilities.

This position primarily operates in a remote work environment, with occasional in-person office time expected, possibly 1-2 days per month. Candidates must reside within 2 hours commute of the Portland, OR area.

Specific Position Requirements & Responsibilities:
  • Direct, manage, and perform the daily activities of the finance department, encompassing accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, financial reporting, and other related functions.
  • Collaborate with our outsourced Certified Public Accountant firm and banking partners.
  • Oversee the creation of accurate, compliant, and insightful periodic financial statements.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Coordinate and oversee budgeting and forecasting processes, working closely with the Director of Business Operations in developing financial plans and targets.
  • Conduct financial analysis, variance analysis, and trend analysis to identify opportunities for cost savings, revenue enhancements, and operational efficiency improvements.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership to support strategic decision-making and business growth initiatives.
  • Mentor and develop finance team members, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to foster professional growth and ensure departmental effectiveness.
  • Escalation points for issues related to aging accounts receivable.
  • Other duties as assigned


Work Experience, Qualifications, Additional Skill and Abilities, and Professional Competencies:
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles, including supervisory or managerial experience required.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles, regulations, financial analysis techniques, and internal controls.
  • Experience in the Healthcare industry is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage competing priorities.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to adapt to a variety of tasks, from high-level strategic planning to hands-on financial management.

Education, Licensure, and Certification Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required.
  • CPA or MBA required.

Work and Physical Conditions:
  • Position operates in a remote work setting, requiring reliable internet access and a suitable workspace
  • Must reside within a 2-hour commute of the Portland, OR to accommodate occasional in-person office days.
  • Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, with flexibility as needed to meet deadlines and attend meetings. Occasional extended hours may be required during peak periods.
  • Ability to sit or stand for 6-8 hours per day.
  • Ability to sit or stand in front of a computer screen and type on a keyboard 6-8 hours per day.
  • Ability to wear a headset, dial, answer, and talk on a telephone for 6-8 hours per day.
  • Ability to lift and transport computer, headset, and files between office and home; less than 20 pounds as needed.
