Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to join our team. The Controller will oversee all accounting operations, including the management of financial statements, budget preparation, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and have a thorough understanding of horticultural financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Bank Statements:
- Oversee the reconciliation of all bank statements on a monthly basis.
- Ensure accuracy and timely reporting of bank transactions.
Petty Cash Management:
- Supervise the handling and documentation of petty cash transactions.
- Maintain petty cash records and perform periodic audits.
Borrowing Compliance:
- Monitor and ensure compliance with all borrowing agreements, providing substantiation of inventory, receivables and payables to bank upon request.
- Manage debt levels, loan documentation, and reporting requirements.
Inventory Evaluation:
- Oversee the valuation of inventory (quarterly), ensuring accurate costing and accounting practices.
- Implement and monitor inventory costing procedures to improve methods and keep costs down
Costing Modeling:
- Develop and maintain costing models to support pricing strategies and financial planning.
- Analyze and report on cost variances and trends.
Financial Statements:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reports
- Conduct year-end financial analysis and audits.
- Provide insights and recommendations for financial improvements.
- Ensure compliance with all payroll tax requirements including (940, 943, 943A, 165)
- Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports to the board of directors.
- Communicate financial performance, forecasts, and strategic recommendations.
Budgeting with Department Heads:
- Collaborate with department heads to develop and manage annual budgets.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to optimize budgetary performance.
Quarterly Taxes:
- Prepare and file quarterly tax returns.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations.
Royalty Reporting:
- Manage the calculation and reporting of royalties.
- Ensure accurate and timely payments to partners.
ACA Reporting:
- Oversee Affordable Care Act (ACA) reporting requirements form 720.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of ACA documentation in coordination with HR department
Accounting Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor an accounting team of three direct reports.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
- Provide oversight support to AR and AP as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Experience in the horticulture or agriculture industry is preferred
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization.
