The Controller role involves overseeing the financial operations of a small to medium-sized construction firm, directly reporting to the owner. This Controller also will manage a team of 4 accounting professionals, ensuring accurate financial reporting, cost control, and budget management. The ideal Controller candidate will have strong experience in construction accounting and proficiency in Procore and/or Sage. Description

  • Financial Management:
    • Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting.
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and present them to the owner.
    • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Manage and mentor a team of 4 accounting professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure their success.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Cost Control and Budgeting:
    • Develop and monitor budgets for various construction projects, ensuring adherence to financial plans.
    • Analyze project costs and provide financial insights to project managers and senior leadership.
    • Implement cost control measures to optimize financial performance.
  • Software Proficiency:
    • Utilize Procore and/or Sage for financial management and reporting.
    • Ensure accurate and timely data entry and reporting within these systems.
  • Internal Controls and Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
    • Conduct regular audits and reviews of financial processes to ensure accuracy and integrity.


Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction accounting.
  • Proficiency in Procore and/or Sage.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and construction cost accounting.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience.
