Reports to: President/CEO

Hours/Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm

Work environment: Onsite / In-office

About the role:

WSH Management is seeking a motivated and experienced Controller to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess proven experience as a Controller or in a senior financial leadership role within the real estate industry, specifically focusing on affordable housing. The Controller will play a critical role in overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and contributing to the organization's strategic growth.

What you'll do:

• Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with company goals and growth objectives.
• Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes, collaborating with various departments to prepare detailed annual budgets and strategic plans.
• Manage financial reporting, analysis, and compliance activities, ensuring adherence to real estate finance, tax, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to make informed financial decisions, providing strategic insights and recommendations.
• Provide leadership to the finance team, foster a culture of excellence, and mentor a staff of nine accounting personnel, including an Assistant Controller.
• Oversee cash management processes and review quarterly projection schedules to optimize liquidity and financial performance.
• Coordinate tax and audit planning with external auditors/tax practitioners, ensuring compliance and timely reporting.
• Implement internal controls, policies and procedures, and best business practices for the company and its investments, driving operational efficiency and risk mitigation.

Our ideal candidate:

• A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required; an MBA or CPA is preferred but not mandatory.
• 5 - 7 years of experience in a leadership role, managing teams in challenging environments.
• Background in property management, particularly with government-subsidized properties, is highly desirable.
• Proven ability to execute financial reports under tight timelines, demonstrating attention to detail and accuracy.
• Familiarity with Yardi software or similar financial management systems.
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance standards within the property management industry.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
• Experience working in smaller companies with direct reports and a hands-on approach to leadership.
• The candidate will be required to pass a background and drug screening. (A conviction will not necessarily disqualify you from employment with WSH Management.)
