Our client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Controller to join their team. As a leading water utility organization, this company is dedicated to providing reliable and sustainable water and wastewater services to its communities. In this role, you will play a key part in shaping the financial strategies and ensuring robust financial controls.

Responsibilities of the Controller:
  • Oversee all aspects of financial management, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP standards and manage all audit processes.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs), internal controls, and processes to streamline financial operations.
  • Manage a team of up to five finance professionals, providing mentorship and guidance.
  • Monitor and manage inventory control processes, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Oversee construction-in-progress (CIP) accounting, tracking costs related to fixed-asset construction.
  • Drive change and improvement initiatives, pushing against resistance to implement best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Work closely with other departments to support organizational goals and initiatives.

Qualifications needed for the Controller:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's degree and/or CPA certification is a plus).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting and finance, with a strong understanding of GAAP standards.
  • Proven experience managing a company through audits and implementing internal controls.
  • Strong experience creating SOPs, processes, and streamlining financial operations.
  • Experience in inventory control and construction-in-progress accounting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with public, government, state, or municipality industry experience is advantageous.
  • Experience with ERP system implementation is a plus.
  • Oversight of HR functions/Has helped implement HR processes
