Our client, located in Somers, NY, is a non-profit organization that offers various programs for youth and their families. They have partnered with CFS to identify an Interim Controller to join their team ASAP.

What you'll do:
    Purchasing Process Assessment:
    • Lead an in-depth assessment of the organization's purchasing process.
    • Evaluate how goods and services are acquired, dollar thresholds for approvals, purchase requisition requirements, etc.
    • Identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.
    • Develop and implement recommendations to streamline and automate the purchasing process.

    General Ledger Platform Enhancement:
    • Interface with the software provider, Sylogist, to understand the capabilities of the existing general ledger platform, Serenic Navigator (Navision) powered by Microsoft Dynamics 365.
    • Assess the adequacy of current reports and identify gaps.
    • Work with Sylogist to determine if canned reports exist to meet the organization's needs.
    • If necessary, collaborate with Sylogist to develop customized reports tailored to the organization's requirements.

    Grant Budget Analysis:
    • Assist in analyzing budget and expenditures related to a 3-year grant
    • Evaluate spending patterns, budget variances, and adherence to grant guidelines.
    • Provide insights and recommendations to inform the creation of the Year 2 budget modification proposal for submission to ORR.

    Operational Support:
    • Provide ad-hoc operational support to the CFO and finance team as needed.
    • Evaluate the current allocation process within payroll, Accounts Payable, and General Ledger reporting areas to improve ORR reporting.
    • Assist in resolving day-to-day accounting issues and challenges.
    • Support the implementation of best practices in accounting and operations.

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
    • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a corporate and/or non profit environment.
    • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
    • Practical experience in assessing and optimizing purchasing and/ or other operational accounting processes.
    • Proficiency in using accounting software, preferably experience with Navision powered by Microsoft Dynamics 365 or similar platforms.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
    • Proven track record of delivering results and driving process improvements.
