Small Business Controller

Our client is seeking a skilled and experienced Small Business Controller to oversee the financial operations of their organization. The Controller will be responsible for managing all accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls to ensure the financial health and compliance of the company. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, financial analysis, and leadership, with the ability to provide strategic financial guidance to senior management.

Responsibilities:
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
    • Provide accurate and timely financial reports to senior management and owners.
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other regulatory requirements.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Develop and maintain the annual budgeting process.
    • Create financial forecasts and projections to support business decision-making.
    • Monitor budget variances and provide recommendations for cost-saving initiatives.
  • Cash Flow Management:
    • Manage cash flow, including forecasting and monitoring cash inflows and outflows.
    • Optimize working capital and liquidity to support business operations and growth initiatives.
    • Implement strategies to mitigate financial risks and maximize cash resources.
    • Customer invoicing & profit margin review
    • Accounts Payable review
  • Financial Analysis:
    • Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
    • Provide insights and recommendations based on financial data to support strategic decision-making.
    • Perform ad-hoc analysis as requested by senior management.
  • Internal Controls and Compliance:
    • Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
    • Coordinate external audits and reviews, including providing support to auditors and addressing any audit findings.
    • Stay updated on relevant accounting standards, regulations, and industry best practices.

  • Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
    • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles
    • Netsuite experience a plus
    • Strong technical accounting skills and knowledge of GAAP.
    • Proficiency in financial modeling, analysis, and reporting.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial management software.
    • Experience in small business or startup environments preferred.
    • Demonstrated leadership abilities, including team management and development.
    • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and adapt to changing priorities.
