Senior Controller

Job purpose

Under the direction of the Senior Director, Finance & Accounting, the Senior Controller will maintain finance and accounting records including the general ledger, records, and journal entries. The Senior Controller is responsible for all monthly general ledger maintenance and month end close process.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the accounting team, providing guidance and assisting with tasks, ensuring their professional development.
  • Manage the monthly financial close process, including ensuring appropriate accounting, all costs incurred are properly recorded, journal entries reviewed & that all deadlines for management & legal reporting are met.
  • Responsible for ensuring that balance sheet accounts are properly reviewed & reconciled in accordance with company accounting policies & procedures.
  • Participate in the ongoing review and updates of accounting policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Identify and implement improvement opportunities across finance & accounting.
  • Ensure compliance with internal control policies.
  • Interacts at all levels of the organization to produce timely, efficient and accurate monthly reporting.
  • Work with Shared Services to continue to improve processes and provide information for reporting.
  • Assist in both internal and external audits as necessary.
  • Complete special projects as needed.
  • Comply with all applicable U.S. Food and Drug Administration (U.S. FDA) medical device regulatory requirements, applicable ISO 13485.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with ten (10) years of accounting experience and three (3+) years of experience managing a team.
  • Complete understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and concepts.
  • Strong Excel skills are essential.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects through completion.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and possess the ability to follow instructions and work independent of others.
  • Ability to work with and train accounting staff.

  • Frequently use fingers to type and do other fine motor tasks.
  • Occasionally required to stand; walk, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop; kneel; or crouch.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision for long periods of time, as when reading and working on financial documents and reports. Ability to use computer monitor for long periods of time, which can cause eye strain.
  • Ability to use auto, air and public transportation for work related travel, up to 10% of the time.
