Accounting Consultant for Small Business Overhaul
Location: Denver
About the Accounting Consultant Role:
We are a dynamic small business seeking an experienced Accounting Consultant to lead a comprehensive overhaul of our accounting practices
This critical role involves cleaning up our balance sheet and inventory accounting, developing and documenting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and setting up a streamlined accounting department, including hiring the necessary talent
The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of accounting knowledge, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for creating efficient, effective processes.
Accounting Consultant Responsibilities:
- Balance Sheet and Inventory Accounting Clean-Up: Conduct a thorough review of our current balance sheet and inventory accounting practices
Identify inaccuracies, inconsistencies, and areas for improvement
Implement strategies to resolve these issues promptly and efficiently, ensuring our accounting records accurately reflect our financial status.
- Development and Documentation of SOPs: Develop comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all accounting processes, including but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory management, and financial reporting
Document these SOPs in a clear, concise manner, making them accessible and understandable to all team members.
- Partner with CPA firm to file tax returns
- Accounting Department Set-Up: Assess our current and future accounting needs
Design a streamlined accounting department structure that supports our business operations effectively
This includes defining roles and responsibilities, determining the optimal number of staff, and outlining the skills and qualifications required for each position.
- Hiring and Training: Assist in hiring a permanent accounting staff and provide comprehensive training on our newly established SOPs and any accounting software or tools we utilize.
- Ongoing Support and Improvement: Serve as an ongoing resource for the accounting department, offering guidance and support as needed
Continuously monitor the effectiveness of our accounting practices and make recommendations for improvements or updates to SOPs.
Accounting Consultant Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA or CMA certification is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting, with a strong background in balance sheet management and inventory accounting.
- Proven experience developing and implementing accounting SOPs.
- Experience in setting up or significantly restructuring an accounting department, including hiring staff.
- Strong understanding of accounting software and systems.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to train and motivate a team.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and drive projects to completion.
