Global Finance Operations
- Global Finance Operations (GFO) is the backbone of the HSBC Global Finance function, responsible for production and assurance activity and end-to-end processes for our global businesses and legal entities. We have a global footprint and we operate within a robust control environment, eliminating operational risk and driving efficiency and effectiveness as one team.
- GFO capabilities include - Financial Accounting, Financial Reporting, Regulatory Reporting, Business Finance, Stress Testing, Asset Liability & Capital Management, Product Control and Finance Systems.
The role holder will be assigned to one of the capability area depending upon the priorities and requirements of the GFO.
What you'll do:
Roles and responsibilities
Service Delivery - Timely and accurate delivery on activities as assigned from below.
Reporting and submissions
- Submissions to Financial and management reporting systems, working/calculations that gets feed from front office, intermediary and ledgers and perform sanity checks
- Monitor, validate & drive correction of the site level financial data originating from and interfacing with the Global Finance Centres
- Financial reporting (by site, entity, region and group level) - Prepare and Review reporting packs (external and internal) i.e. Board, Exco, ARA support, product/segment and other specific packs, including analysis and commentary
- Take lead in the improvement and re-designing of the processes alongside any change deliverable
- Review and challenge assumptions, provide suggestions to enhance Data/Reporting improvements
Planning
- Prepare projections and models for forecasting and planning
- Conduct first level analysis
- Review and commentary on planning reports
- Prepare plan packs including analysis and commentary
Process Improvements
- Continuous review of process with the objective of improving the resource utilization, time taken and quality of deliverables
- Implement high-impact projects for enhancing operational efficiency or process capability
- Review and simplify/re-write GB/GF Procedures and Operating Instructions, in accordance with the Target State Design Principles, to improve ease of reading and understanding;
- Align the Procedures and Operating Instructions (1LoD) to Policy Minimum Control Requirements (2LoD) to ensure top-to-bottom traceability and enhance policy compliance; and
- Migrate all applicable content onto GPPS to enable enhanced governance, search functionality and record keeping.
Exceptional Handling / Troubleshooting-
- Identify Solutions and troubleshoot exceptional situation
- Manage Business Partners, Impact analysis and implement adequate mitigants
- Design long-term solutions for detection, prevention and management of exceptional issues
Customers / Stakeholders
Business Partner relationship-
- Ensure Control and Monitoring of Key Performance Indicators & Maintain regular communication with Business partners
- Execute action plan around Key Performance Indicators on the gaps and on Business Partner Feedback
Operational Effectiveness & Control
System Development-
- System development - requirement gathering, system specification, designing, testing, production
- Project Management relating activities i.e. stakeholder management, timely completion etc.
- Perform User Acceptance Testing for system changes
- Change management of requests for data or reporting change
Compliance & Risk Control-
- Operational / Transactional risk controls in compliance with HSBC and regulatory standards and policies
Requirements
What you will need to succeed in the role:
Skills Required
- Professional Qualification - Chartered Accountant from ICAI
- Good understanding of P&L & Balance sheet drivers.
- Hands on Experience using MS Office applications, especially expert knowledge of Excel
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams. Strong interpersonal skills and team working ability
- Ability to deal with and analyse unstructured problems and queries and to question and challenge existing procedures.
- An understanding of the key financial risks to which Banks are exposed e.g. Credit Risk, Market Risk etc.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with stakeholders of different seniority and geographical location
- Excellent business writing skills, Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to challenge information presented, providing reasoned explanation to ensure that agreement is reached by both parties
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with team members/wider business including senior executive management and ability to develop a good rapport in challenging situations
Skills/Experience Desired
- Previous experience in Banking / Audit / Controls is preferred
- Technical Knowledge -
- IFRS/US GAAP closing & reporting (External and/or management).
- Knowledge of finance functions such as Regulatory reporting, Accounting, Reconciliation and reporting in the financial services sector is a must
- Good automation skills - Knowledge of programming language like Python, VBA, SQL
- A base level understanding of financial products and how the global environment in which HSBC operates impacts pricing strategies, the banking business, balance sheet and P&L.
