Andelyn Biosciences is a biopharmaceutical Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) focused on advancing novel gene therapies from concept to commercialization.Located in the heart of Columbus, OH, the company has expanded to three buildings with more than 250,000 combined square feet of space. The Andelyn Corporate Center (ACC) is dedicated for cGMP manufacturing, the Andelyn Development Center (ADC) for preclinical non-cGMP activities, and the Andelyn Plasmid Center (APC) for research and cGMP plasmid production.

The name "Andelyn" is a hybrid of two gene therapy patients who participated in pivotal Phase I clinical trials at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Andrew received the first U.S. investigational gene therapy for Duchenne muscular dystrophy in 2006. Evelyn received experimental gene therapy for spinal muscular atrophy in 2015. "Andelyn" combines their names to represent all the families who have courageously participated in the research that makes today's gene therapies possible.

What you will do.

The Controller position is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions of Andelyn Biosciences including financial statement preparation and reconciliations, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General ledger, and tax related functions. The position manages workflow, oversees team operations, resolves issues and conflicts, and develops training at various levels to ensure adherence to policies and US GAAP. This position is also responsible for evaluating team members' performance against individual goals and team priorities.
  • Manage the preparation of the monthly financial statements of Andelyn Biosciences. Ensure that statements are prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Oversee the monthly reconciliation for all balance sheet accounts.
  • Lead the preparation of monthly financial reports, monthly forecasts, annual operating plan/budget, and the creation of strategic planning models.
  • Manage corporate (federal, state, property, use, etc.) tax filings. Ensure that all filings and payments are made by required deadlines.
  • Manage the fixed asset process including creation of new assets within the accounting system as well as tagging, depreciation, and disposal of assets.
  • Manage intercompany accounts, and the reconciliation of associated accounts
  • Serve as primary contact for external auditors, and take ultimately responsibility for the company receiving an unqualified audit opinion
  • Oversight of the AP/AR Analyst role and related responsibilities
  • Manage the Accounts Receivable process, including invoice creation for various billing types, payment posting, and collection of receivables.
  • Manage the Accounts Payable process, including payments to vendors and employees; payment cycle, including generation of checks, ACH payments, and positive pay files.
  • Create technical memos to support accounting positions taken by the company
  • Work cross functionally to implement process improvements and controls to better manage costs, and accuracy of reporting
  • Provide short and long term cash flow forecasts to CFO for review
  • Manage staff members as indicated below. Conduct annual performance evaluations of staff, coach, mentor and develop staff as needed to enhance job productivity and satisfaction. Make decisions on hiring and firing staff with the input from the CFO.
  • Ensure bill of material and costing accurately reflect production operations.
  • Document and understand ERP systems, and the related processing of transactions.
  • Develop training programs at individual, department and organizational level that ensure adherence to internal policies and federal mandates related to areas of responsibility.
  • Develop and maintain departmental policies and procedures to ensure adequate system of internal controls relative to areas of responsibility.
  • Provides input on the design and function of information systems used for areas of responsibility to ensure efficient job processes and compliance.
  • Exercise discretion, judgment, and personal responsibility, high level of integrity, positive attitude, and attention to detail in all job functions
  • Performs in accordance with established policies, procedures, and techniques and requires training common experience or working knowledge related to the tasks performed
  • Ability to articulate complex issues in simple terms to management team

What you bring to the team.
  • Must possess relevant four-year degree OR relevant Masters, background in the life sciences, biotechnology, CDMO or gene therapy industries preferred
  • CPA with public accounting experience preferred
  • Experience with SAP Business One is preferred
  • Broad knowledge of the field with demonstrated leadership skills
  • First-level manager. Manages activities of the team including supervisors and/or individual contributors
  • Prior supervisory experience is required
  • Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and adjust as priorities change
  • Must demonstrate advance skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word. Experience with Microsoft excel power query strongly preferred
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a diverse and inclusive work environment
  • Must possess a client-focused mindset in daily tasks
  • Must possess prior experience handling confidential information and the ability to maintain confidentiality
